To use PrettyMay Call Recorder for Skype Basic, you must connect the software as an authorized third-party add-on to your classic Windows desktop version of Skype. The Basic (Free) version of PrettyMay automatically captures incoming and outgoing audio, but it applies a maximum recording limit of 15 to 30 minutes per call.
Below is the step-by-step process to set up, configure, and use the software. 1. Link PrettyMay with Skype
Because PrettyMay operates as a classic desktop extension, it requires explicit permission to interact with your Skype application:
Launch your classic Skype desktop application and log into your account. Open the PrettyMay Call Recorder application.
Watch for a pop-up banner inside Skype stating: “Another program (PrettyMay.exe) wants to use Skype.” Click Allow Access to authorize the connection. 2. Configure Recording Settings
Before jumping into a call, set your preferred audio format and storage paths:
In the PrettyMay main window, navigate to the Tools menu and select Options. Go to the Call Recording tab.
Choose your output audio format: MP3 (compressed, smaller file size) or WAV (uncompressed, higher quality).
Select your preferred destination folder where recordings will be automatically saved. 3. Record a Call
PrettyMay can handle recordings dynamically depending on your settings:
Automatic Mode: By default, PrettyMay is built to start recording the moment a Skype call connects. You will see the recording timer begin ticking inside the PrettyMay dashboard as soon as you start speaking.
Manual Mode: If you disable automatic recording in the options menu, you must manually click the Record (Red Circle) button on the PrettyMay interface after your Skype call connects.
Stopping: Click the Stop (Square) button at any time to cut the recording short, or simply hang up the Skype call to save it automatically. 4. Retrieve and Manage Your Audio Files
Once a call ends, your audio is compiled into a single file:
Open the PrettyMay main interface and look at the built-in Call History log.
Right-click any recorded session from the list to play it, view it in your local folder, or export it.
Alternatively, navigate directly to the storage folder you specified during the setup phase to find your raw MP3 or WAV files. Important Operational Note
PrettyMay relies on the legacy Skype Desktop API architecture. It is fully compatible with older operating systems like Windows XP, Vista, and 7 running classic Skype versions. Modern cloud-based versions of Skype (Skype version 8 and newer) do not support this API structure. If you are using a modern version of Skype, you can record calls directly without third-party software by clicking the ”+” or “More Options” button during an active call and selecting Start Recording.
If you are trying to get this running on a specific system, let me know which operating system you are using and your current Skype version so I can confirm if they are compatible. PrettyMay Call Recorder for Skype
